BaconFest Chicago, 2010.

11Apr10

Presented by the Illinois Pork Producers, BaconFest took place at the Stan Mansion in Logan Square.  From a block away, you could smell the bacon, it impregnated the spring air with is piquant smell.  It really was, heaven.  (Afterwards, yes, I was in a bacon-induced coma and 24 hours I am still full.  But I smell like bacon.  I don’t want to shower.)

There were twelve dishes featuring bacon, my favorites being the frozen Bacon-Snickers Bar present by the Chef Derek Simcik of the Atwood Café, the Bacon and Cod Sausage with Bacon-Ramp Vinaigrette, and the Malfatti al Amatriciana-Ricotta Gnocchi with a Ragu of House-Cured Pancetta presented by Troy Graves of Eve Restaurant, Red Onion and Tomato Sauce with Fresh Marjoram presented by Chef Tony Priolo of Piccolo Sogno.

Some pictures included, but it was often times it took just too much effort to take a photo before my food disappeared…

It was bacon heaven upstairs and downstairs.  Bacon chocolate, BLT cupcakes, Bacon-Chip Cookies, Bacon Bourbon Popcorn, Bacon Apple Fritters, Bacon-Maple Glazed Donuts, bacon sausage, bacon chocolate milk…

Milling around were skinny foodie hipsters downing PBR (the beer sponsor du jour) and just the general, Midwestern, Bacon-enthusiast, with one hand holding a bacon taco, and the other with a bacon Bloody Mary.  With a cornbread rim.  And Bakon vodka.

Yes, it’s not real life.  But the best part was, all the people were bonafide, a-dults.  So it can’t be all-bad.  That is, if my arteries make it to adult-hood.

See you next year, BaconFest.
